Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/AL-KY

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

Al Gerby Supplement Store: Nutritional Supplements At Downtown Katameya Mall, New Cairo}

Al Gerby Supplement Store: Nutritional Supplements at Downtown Katameya Mall, New Cairo

by

Cairo360

Arguably, the majority of shops in Cairo are aimed at the shopaholics amongst us, offering little more than clothes and shoes. However, with the summer fast approaching and fitness becoming a endemic of vanity amongst body-conscious Cairenes, there is an increase in demand for healthy, body building supplements.

Whilst many gyms often offer a range of proteins and vitamins on-site, not all are well-stocked with a variety of different brands. With several independent stores around Cairo, Al Gerby Supplement Store has set up shop at New Cairo’s Downtown Katameya Mall.

Resembling a booth rather than a shop, Al Gerby’s supplements are lined up neatly on shelves and grouped into logical sections, easily visible from behind a glass wall. The shop assistant wasn’t very forthcoming, and when asked about the difference between one supplement designed especially for women, and the unisex type, he was unable to give us an explanation. Despite having a number of well-known brands to choose from, those familiar with the range available overseas may be slightly disappointed to find there’s nothing new here.

Protein powder from several brands was available, in a multitude of different sizes, largely imported from the US. A large variety of Isopure products are available in a decent range of flavours; Isopure carb-free, whey protein and Isopure mass. A huge bucket (3.5kg) of Isopure carb-free was available, along with regular sized tubs (450LE). Also in stock was Iso-femme (250LE), an oestrogen free protein powder aimed specifically at women.

The popular brand, Optimum Nutrition, was also in stock, with both pots and large bags of whey and serious mass protein. We also spotted Musclemeds, carnivore beef isolate, as well as 6.8kg bags of PharmaFreak, Mass Freak.

Amino Acid helpful in both weight-lifting and fat-loss programmes was available from several different brands, including Advanced Performance Nutrition (APN), Amino Freak and Nature’s Best. Similarly glutamine, an essential ingredient for faster recovery, was available from Maximum Human Performance (MHP) (500LE/kg) and MuscleMeds (250LE/300g).

Labrada Supercharge was one of the few pre-workout powders we saw, whilst a small pot of Labrada Lean Body (350LE) was the only fat-burner available for women. Cookie and cream protein bars are sold individually (25LE), as are protein milkshakes and black-top protein shakers.

Whilst Al Gerby is a little pricier than other supplement vendors, this small supplement store has a decent range of the basic pills and powders needed to supplement your workout routine.

Cairo 360 is a multi-award winning online magazine which serves as the leading critical guide to living in Cairo, Egypt. Developed by multimedia specialists Media Republic, the site is aimed at Cairenes and carries reviews and features of all the latest venues Cairo has to offer from restaurants and nightspots to art galleries and shopping. Cairo 360 also provides a comprehensive guide to events, and cinema listings, as well as ideas for travelling on weekends and a complete guide to home entertainment including DVDs, music, and books.

Goat head delivered to Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts

Friday, April 12, 2013

Wednesday at 2:30pm Chicago local time, a goat’s head was delivered for Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts at his office in Wrigley Field. The head was dropped off at Gate K by the unidentified male driver of a van, reportedly not by a member of the United States Postal Service.

The Chicago Police were notified of the incident, and are investigating. The driver of the truck was recorded on surveillance video.

In 1945, when the Cubs last competed in Major League Baseball’s World Series, Chicago restaurant owner Billy Sianis was ejected from Wrigley Field during the World Series after trying to bring a goat into the stadium. Following the incident, Sianis is alleged to have cursed the team, vowing they would never win the championship again. The incident has become part of Chicago Cubs’ fan lore.

The day of the incident, the Chicago Cubs game versus the Milwuakee Brewers was postponed due to weather. The Cubs organization is also in negotiations with the city of Chicago over possible renovations to Wrigley Field.

Pichilemu and Cobquecura, Chile rocked again by aftershocks

Friday, March 26, 2010

Two medium intensity seisms were registered in Chile. These quakes are aftershocks of the March 11 Pichilemu earthquake. According to the University of Chile Geological Survey, the first one took place at 9:59 local time (13:59 UTC); its epicenter was located 17 kilometers northeast of Pichilemu, with a magnitude of 4.7. It lasted about ten seconds. The second aftershock had a magnitude of 5.1, and occurred at the 10:57 local time (14:57 UTC), with its epicenter located 15 kilometers north of Cobquecura.

The National Emergencies Office graded the scale of the seisms on the Mercalli scale, which attempts to quantify the amount of physical damage caused by an earthquake. The intensities of the smaller aftershock were determined to be V in Pichilemu, III in Talca and II in San Fernando, while the larger 5.1 magnitude earthquake only hit IV in Pichilemu, but registered a IV in Talca as well, due to its closer proximity to that city.

Thursday morning the Municipality of Pichilemu posted a letter via Facebook to all those affected by the February 27 and March 11 earthquakes in the surrounding areas of Pichilemu, like Ciruelos, Alto Ramírez, and others. However, they didn’t name the village of Espinillo. The mayor of Pichilemu, Roberto Córdova, was criticized for not giving aid to the village. Córdova responded that he was “doing his best to aid [the surrounding areas]. [The Municipality] is going to replace the [balustrades] destroyed by the 11 March earthquake,” and “these places are receiving the aid they require.”

Why Most People Fail In Network Marketing}

Submitted by: Gurpinder Gill

Multi level marketing companies are expanding internationally at a very rapid rate. Thus, most of us have come across a family member, friend, colleague, or even stranger that has tried to join a company through their team. In most cases, we first attend company presentations. During these presentations, we are introduced to the company’s products, compensation plan, and most importantly… Income statements, top net-workers of the company, Incentives and Bonuses.

With the display of incentives and bonuses such as paid vacations, cash bonuses, cars, etc, we tend to buy in to this very appealing lifestyle. Top marketers of the company make guest speeches and display their success stories and income statements that are usually in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Who would not want this lifestyle…where you work whenever you want and with whom you want?

Now, why do most people fail in network marketing companies? The question cannot be answered in one sentence because there are various reasons.

1. Not Treating the business like a Business: People get over-excited with the incentives the company is offering and decide to join. In reality, more than half of the people who join do not even have the mind set of starting and running a business. Once joined, they don’t take advantage of the training tools, marketing techniques, and free training presentations.

Tip: Training tools provided by the company are like a blueprint for success in your business. If they have worked for others, why not for you. Educate yourself. Learn from your sponsor. Learn from your mistakes and do not give up after two or three people have decided to bring you down. It is very normal with network marketing because of its reputation. Those who decided to drop out usually claim the company is a scam.

2. Lack of truth in company presentations: People join and think the money will flow in. This is because the company presentations make life seem so simple as a network marketer. No one actually mentions the amount of work and dedication it goes in to building a business. They only talk about the expensive cars, big houses, and paid cruises. Nobody talks about the number of times they failed before achieving success.

Tip: Research the top mlm marketers of the company and see how long they have been in the business. How long did it actually take them to make a certain amount of money or achieve a certain level of success! In addition to that, examine the company`s income disclosure…what are the average earnings of a network marketer with this company.

In short and simple form, some common mistakes new network marketers make and thus fail include:

– Not treating the business like a business

– Not educating themselves with company training tools

– Not attending company meetings and presentations

– Not talking to people about their business opportunity

– Expecting their sponsor will do all the recruitment for them

– Procrastinating

– Not marketing their business through their own social media networks – Look desperate to make sales

– Do not have enough knowledge about the products they are promoting

– Dont continually educate themselves with the latest marketing techniques available to assist their them with their business

-Do not have the business mindset….most people do not understand why they want to succeed in the business….most people simply join for the possible results that may come upon success. However, having a reason to business is a very big secret to success in business. The reason is why you will compel yourself to put in hard work, dedication, and commitment in to your business.

About the Author: The reasons for failing in network marketing are endless, but these are perhaps the top mistakes new network marketers make. I hope this article was useful to all. I was once a part of a MLM company, and thus am speaking from my mistakes as a naive marketer. I wish I knew these things then. Sponsors also make a big difference; some are more supportive versus others, and will guide you every step of the way. Others, not so much because they probably didnt educate themselves as of yet. Marriott Hotel in Islamabad bombed

Saturday, September 20, 2008

The Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan was bombed today killing at least 60 people and injuring 120.

The explosion, believed to be a car or truck bomb and heard 30 km (18 miles) away in Rawalpindi, occurred at 8 P.M. PDT (14:00 UTC), just hours after newly elected President Asif Ali Zardari addressed Parliament promising to destroy terrorism in the country.

It is thought that more than a ton of explosives were used in the blast, which left a crater 30 feet deep and triggered a gas leak which sent the hotel up in flames. It is feared that the death toll may go much higher in what is one of the worst terror attacks in Pakistan’s history.

The Marriott is a popular place for foreigners to stay and a prominent enterprise in the city, despite a wave of violence the country suffers.

The hotel had been victim of another attack in January 2007 where a security guard was killed and several people injured after the guard blocked a bomber from getting at the hotel, forcing him to detonate his explosives where he was.

Ambulances rushed to the scene of today’s explosion, where rescuers ferried away the dead. Dozens of vehicles were gutted by fire, nearby trees were knocked down, and windows shattered in buildings hundreds of metres away. Witnesses, including a security guard, described a large truck approaching the building immediately before the explosion.

No-one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing, but the main suspects are Pakistan Taleban who operate in the north-west of the country.

U.S airstrike kills Senior Al Qaeda leader

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

On Saturday the Pentagon confirmed the death of well-known Al Qaeda militant leader Qari Yasin. Yasin’s death was the result of a U.S. counter-terrorism airstrike this month on March 19 in Afghanistan. In 2008 Qari Yasin plotted and executed a bombing on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, killing at least 40 innocent civilians and wounding 250. Later in 2009, the ‘mastermind’ attacked a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team, killing six Pakistani policemen, two civilians and injured six members of the cricket team.

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis expressed in a statement, “the death of Qari Yasin is evidence that terrorists who defame Islam and deliberately target innocent people will not escape justice.” According to the Long War Journal, Pakistani Taliban spokesman Mohammad Khurasani, characterizes Yasin “as one of the greatest trainers of explosives and electronics in the fields of Jihad.” It has become clear to U.S. military forces that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) tactic of using innocent civilians as “human shields” has increased difficulty and risk in their work.

The Donald Trump administration is currently under fire with the increase of civilian casualties as a result of the increased drone strikes across Iraq and Syria. Airwars is a project for tracking civilian deaths as a result of drone attacks. The non-profit organisation estimates that the U.S. has caused close to 1000 civilian deaths in only one month. Yasin’s death in the Paktika province southeast of Afghanistan shows that the groups have discovered sanctuaries in this area while surrounding states demand that they are shut down.

Borussia Dortmund’s team bus hit with explosives before Champions League match, Marc Bartra injured

Wednesday, April 12, 2017

Yesterday in Dortmund, Germany prior to the UEFA Champions League’s quarter-final match against AS Monaco, explosives detonated near a bus carrying Borussia Dortmund (BVB)’s team, injuring defender Marc Bartra. The match was “postponed until Wednesday at 18:45 CET”, read UEFA’s official statement.

Spanish centre back Marc Bartra broke his radial bone of his right hand, and underwent an operation later at night, BVB reported. Goalkeeper Roman Bürki, who was next to Bartra in the bus told Blick that Bartra “was hit by fragments of the broken rear window” ((de)) German language: von Splittern der zerborstenen Rückscheibe getroffen wurde .

Dortmund’s police chief Gregor Lange said the explosions were reported at 19:15 CET. He said, “At 19:15 CET, there were three explosions in the vicinity of the hotel in which the BVB team had been guests and were leaving to travel to the stadium.” ((de)) German language: Um 19.15 Uhr ist es zu drei Explosionen im Umfeld des Hotels gekommen, in dem die Mannschaft des BVB gastiert und von dort den Weg zum Stadion angetreten hat. He said it was a “targeted attack on the BVB Team Bus”. Police checked for further explosives using sniffer dogs. Gregor Lange said they discovered another explosive which did not detonate. They also found a letter claiming the responsibility of the attack, but the officials did not reveal its details.

Benedikt Höwedes, captain of Schalke 04, Dortmund’s local rivals, tweeted, “Separated by color, united against violence! Best regards @MarcBarta and the whole team of @BVB [Borussia Dortmund], I hope you are all well! #BVBASM” ((de)) German language: Getrennt in den Farben, vereint gegen Gewalt! Alles Gute, @MarcBartra und dem gesamten Team des @BVB! Ich hoffe, es geht euch gut! #BVBASM . AS Monaco supporters in the stadium yesterday were heard chanting “Dortmund! Dortmund!” after the accident was announced.

Dortmund asked their supporters to help away fans by providing them accommodation for a day by using #bedsforawayfans (beds for away fans) hashtag via social media. Dortmund announced stadium tours for Wednesday were canceled, via their official website. Increasing the security after the attack, Dortmund announced storage facilities at Signal Iduna Park would be closed and no backpacks bigger than A4 size would be permitted in the stadium.
